Students

Wavlink students are adults with disability who want to get ahead who also love socializing. They know who they are and are looking for the means to express that. They all come from many different backgrounds and have many different interests and passions.

-  James likes footy, cooking, computers and catching up with friends and relatives through Facebook.

-  Mari adores jewelry making and has a passion for fashion and colour coordination.

-  Kate loves her new leadership role in Wavlink and supporting her fellow students.

-  Dorothy has not only learnt how to use a computer but she edited a recent news release from Wavlink in the form of a newsletter.

Staff

Wavlink’s three full-time and nine part-time staff are highly experienced tutors and teachers who have a passion for their work and delight in the positive change they can make in students’ lives.

Judy Cox
Chief Executive Officer

Judy took up the reins of CEO at Wavlink in 2008 showing her passion for helping people achieve their ambitions through encouragement, sharing and by leading through example.

“Working at Wavlink has shown me the broad scope of potential of all people in their desire to have freedom to choose and to be equal members of our society.”

An educator for over 40 years, 30 of which have been with people with disability as journeymen, Judy has found the need to support people to assert their rights as community members. She is a strong advocate for the dignity of all.

Yani Escobar
Program Manager

“I thrive on the challenges that bring greater dignity and purpose for people with disability. Everyone should have the same opportunity to have a job, a family, autonomy, social justice and inclusion. I believe that every person has the ability to reach their potential and to be able to make the decisions that affect their life and to have a say in their future.”

Wavlink is fortunate to have had Yani on staff for over 7 years. Before coming to Wavlink Yani and her husband ran a family business while bringing up their young family.

Barbara Mathiesen
Administration Officer/Volunteer Coordinator

“Over the years that I have been at Wavlink I have grown in my knowledge of people with disability and become aware of that we are working with ordinary people just like everybody else who have the same fears, loves and cares. For me it is very rewarding to come to work every day and to realize that I am in an environment where interaction and social development are important.”

As our Administration Officer Barb’s warmth and charm immediately makes you feel welcome. As the mother of one daughter she came to Wavlink from private business and before that the Australian Broadcasting Commission. Barb is also the Volunteer Coordinator responsible for over 6o volunteers every year.

Volunteers

Wavlink Volunteers are people who come from all walks of life to support the students by working closely with tutors. Our volunteers include experts who support administration of Wavlink and a team of volunteers who comprise our Committee of Management.

Each year Wavlink also gives back to the community by hosting 20 students for academic work experience. Work experience students come from the faculties of Education, Medicine, and Social Welfare from both Monash University and Holmesglen TAFE.
